These trilobites belong to the genus Elrathia, which are found in high concentrations within the Wheeler Formation in Utah. They're known for their flat shape and dark color, and are one of the most common trilobite fossils found in the United States.
Size: 0.5 to 0.75 inches long
Trilobites were a large group of marine arthropods, which are invertebrate animals characterized by a segmented body and hard exoskeleton (like crabs or lobsters). The first trilobites appeared over 500 million years ago in the Cambrian Period, and spread worldwide until the Permian mass extinction about 250 million years later. Their hard outer shell made them a great candidate for fossilization, and as a result they appear frequently in the fossil record—over 25,000 species have been described!
Each purchase includes a glass top display box and an informational card about the fossil.
