These trilobite fossils come from the rich fossil beds of Morocco, a region famous for its well-preserved remnants of ancient marine life. These trilobites lived during the Devonian period, approximately 390 million years ago, when much of what is now North Africa was covered by a warm, shallow sea.

Acastoides is known for its distinctive large, compound eyes and segmented exoskeleton, which helped it adapt to life on the seafloor. Like modern arthropods, these trilobites shed their exoskeletons as they grew, which is why their fossils are often found as disarticulated pieces or molted remains.

These fossils offer a glimpse into the complex ecosystems of ancient oceans long before vertebrates dominated the Earth. Each trilobite specimen is a remarkable relic from a vanished world, capturing the intricate design and adaptability of these early arthropods that thrived for over 270 million years.

Size: Trilobite itself will be approximately 5 mm to 12 mm

What were trilobites?

Trilobites were a large group of marine arthropods, which are invertebrate animals characterized by a segmented body and hard exoskeleton (like crabs or lobsters). The first trilobites appeared over 500 million years ago in the Cambrian Period, and spread worldwide until the Permian mass extinction about 250 million years later. Their hard outer shell made them a great candidate for fossilization, and as a result they appear frequently in the fossil record—over 25,000 species have been described!

Each purchase includes an informational card about the fossil.
