Amethyst is a striking purple variety of quartz, it is created through geological processes and the inclusion of specific trace elements. Amethyst typically forms as solutions rich in silicon dioxide seep into cavities within rocks, often it is formed by volcanic activity or hydrothermal processes. As these solutions cool and solidify, the silicon dioxide molecules arrange themselves in a hexagonal crystal lattice structure, giving rise to quartz crystals. The purple color in amethyst comes from trace amounts of iron impurities within the crystal lattice.

The intensity of the purple hue in amethyst is influenced by factors like the concentration of iron and exposure to natural radiation. Over time, amethyst crystals may undergo color changes induced by irradiation, resulting in hues ranging from pale lilac to deep violet. The geological conditions that foster amethyst formation contribute to its distinct color variations, making it not just visually captivating but also an intriguing subject for mineralogy and geological exploration. These specimens come from Uruguay South America.
